It adds nothing but an ability that you use to change your lower body into the tail of the mermaid. In other words, the mod lets you morph into an oceanic creature so you can explore the ocean. Being a mermaid, you can swim faster, breathe underwater, and the fishes will act normal to you. There are some characteristics of the mod, for instance:

Mermaid Tail is currently for Forge. Hence, it requires you to install Minecraft Forge before installing it. There is also a Fabric port for it, which is called Mermod. You can run it with Fabric Modloader and Fabric API.
