Starlight (Fabric) 1.18.1/1.17.1 is a mod for rewriting the light engine in the game. So, it is able to fix the lighting performance and lighting errors that players experienced before.

How does the Starlight mod operate?
You will learn much more about the present release if you follow the information below.
Compatibility
You are able to install the mod on the dedicated server or client. It’s not necessary for you to install it on both sides.
In case you have Starlight on the server, clients can choose and deploy Vanilla/Phosphor/Starlight to work.
If you have Starlight on the client, you can connect to Vanilla/Phosphor/Starlight servers.
However, you cannot install the edition with Phosphor. They are entirely incompatible.
You should visit and browse through the Issue Tracker to find out further mod incompatibilities.
You are playing with a rather destructive light engine rework. Hence, you can expect that it breaks mods more frequently.
Goal
Starlight is a design that the developer began for higher scale dedicated servers. In fact, they encountered performance issues because the light engine worked slowly.
So, the only solution was to generate a very invasive mod that rewrote the full light engine.
It has the Fabric port so that it can receive updates during snapshots. Besides, every user can use it. That is extremely advantageous for client customers.
But, it does have the weak point when becoming such an invasive mod. Actually, being invasive did not influence higher-scale servers because they perform on Bukkit.
You can check TECHNICAL_DETAILS.md at https://github.com/PaperMC/Starlight/blob/fabric/TECHNICAL_DETAILS.md to look for tech details of how the mod achieves its performance.
Performance
We have a couple of graphs that point out the performance in 3 important areas. These areas comprise:
- Chunk generation
- Block editing at high y-levels
- Normal block light updates.
Starlight is a miscellaneous mod. It is available to download and improve your gaming experience.
