Magnesium Introduction

Its previous name is Sodium Reforged. The owner ports it from Fabric to Forge.

Besides, it’s a free and open-source rendering engine alternative to the Minecraft client. It carries out the following changes:

  • Enhances frame rates
  • Decreases micro-stutter
  • Fixes graphical errors

The mod is proud of its wide compatibility with the Forge mod ecosystem when you place it alongside other mods. Not only that, it does not affect how the game looks. You will get an authentic block game feeling.

Additional info

It’s never compatible with Optifine or Halogen.

There is no plan to port Lithium at the moment.

The owner will maintain it in 1.16.5 and 1.18+.

Features

These are the main features of Magnesium.

A modern OpenGL rendering pipeline for chunk rendering

It makes use of multi-draw techniques. So, it significantly reduces CPU overhead (approximately 90%) when rendering the world.

That creates a very big difference in frame rates for almost all computers that the GPU or other components influence.

If your GPU cannot follow, you will play a much more stable frame time. That begins thanks to the CPU that can run on other rendering tasks while waiting.

Vertex data for rendered chunks

It now becomes much more compact. It cuts down video memory and bandwidth by nearly 40%.

Nearby block updates

They manipulate multi-threading to lower lag spikes that chunks need to get updated cause.

Chunk faces

They are invisible or they are facing away from the camera. The issue of them will disappear very early when the rendering process works.

Removes a lot of geometry that the process could have to handle on the GPU

For integrated GPUs, that can incredibly lessen memory bandwidth requirements. Besides, it will offer a modest speedup when GPU-bound.

Numerous optimizations

They are available in Magnesium for chunk loading and block rendering. They help chunk loading get faster and less damaging to frame rates.

Furthermore, there are plenty of optimizations for vertex building and matric transformations. They speed up the block entity, mob, and item rendering when you put too many chests in a room.

Improvements

These tweaks make better how Minecraft controls memory and allocates stuff. So, they bring down memory consumption and lag spikes that the garbage collector activity causes.

Graphical fixes

They are obtainable for smooth lighting effects. The game will operate stronger while still using a reasonable amount of optimization.

Smooth lighting

For fluids and other unique blocks

Smooth biome blending

For blocks and fluids, giving out greater graphical quality. The result that it brings back will be less computationally intensive.

Animated textures

They are objects which are invisible in the world are not modernized, improving texture updating on most hardware. It especially happens to AMD cards.

The list will get longer in the future.

Magnesium is a miscellaneous mod. Its main aim is to grant everybody a finer experience.
